Lost my mama, lost myself

Lost my mama, lost myself is a video portrait that shows my maternal grandmother, Dorothy, slowly being submerged in water. This particular portrait used to hang near the front door of my childhood home in Texas. Despite Dorothy having died in 1978, my mother used to always say that she could imagine her walking through the door at any moment.

At its very core this work is about living with postmemory and the burden of shared trauma.
